PONTIAC POLICY COUNCIL

Who Is P2C?

The Pontiac Policy Council's (P2C) objective is to promote education on local, state, and federal policy through civic involvement by providing the Pontiac community with the tools and resources needed to advocate for policy change. P2C provides a platform for the community's resources and joint efforts to move Pontiac forward economically, politically, and socially. P2C intends to form a coalition of committed community agencies, grassroots organizations, and institutions to engage, educate, and empower Pontiac locals.

Pontiac Policy Council aspires to provide a conduit for political and policy initiatives that promote progressive change and social justice, resulting in equity and equal opportunity. P2C will accomplish this by developing a cohesive, collaborative network that prioritizes political and policy entrepreneurship in order to bring about long-term, systemic change in the City of Pontiac through a grassroots, bottom-up approach.

CORE PRIORITIES

  • In our community, we educate people about the significance of pursuing equality, equal opportunity, and social and economic justice. We advocate for policy campaigns such as Earned Paid Sick Time, One Fair Wage, Pontiac Youth Recreation Millage, Pontiac School District Sinking Fund Millage, and Michigan Education Justice Coalition, among others.

  • We collaborate with established Pontiac-area businesses and organizations to reach prospective and current entrepreneurs in need of resources and training to develop or expand their small businesses.

  • We offer activity enrichment via arts, health, education, athletics, community surveys, and resident leadership development. In addition, we promote advocacy and activism about laws that affect our students, such as the third grade reading law, as well as parent organisation around education, with a focus on full and equitable funding for all schools.
